FRIDAY, JULY 4TH:

WOW! This is one of the highlights of our trip and definitely should be on anyones bucket list. There are lots of people,(over 500,000) but all were friendly, helpful and courteous. We departed our campground at 0800, went to the T and caught the Red Line to Charles station. From there we walked a few blocks to the entrance of the festivities. The line to enter the Oval was LONG, like 3 blocks, but it moved very fast as there were 3 entrances. After going thru a security check, we entered the Oval, found a grassy area and nested, along with 8,500 others. We were in the first half to enter, so had a respectible site. Wrist bands were given to us so we could exit and reenter all day. Several walks in the area were done by all (10 of us). Then come lunch time we all headed to CHEERS tavern and ate. The festivities started about 7pm with pre concert items, awards and such. The show started precisly at 830, as it was televised on the east coast. All the favorites were playes, the cannons roared and the crowd sang, dances and waved their flags. It was truly an American party! After the concert the fireworks began on the Charles River. We had a peek-a-boo view of the great show. Towards the end we started to migrate towards the T (subway) station. It had been announced earlier in the day that all trains were free and extra trains would be put on. It was very quick moving to the T and boarding. We arrived back in the park about 1.
As I mentioned earlier, this should definitely be on your BUCKET list!
Barbara is working on photos and will get some on.
